About Us

The Office of Intellectual Assets is a service department that works with investigators within The Feinstein Institute for Medical Research and the greater Northwell Health enterprise to facilitate the patent protection and further development of technologies developed by our staff.

To further enhance our potential for commercial impact, The Feinstein Institute has formed a joint venture with i360medical, Ltd – an Ireland-based company with expertise in developing medical devices and bringing them to the global market.  i360’s international business approach will exploit the streamlined European regulatory medical device pathway (CE mark) as a steppingstone to US approval for Northwell hardware and device ideas.  i360 provides comprehensive design, engineering and prototyping services as well as clinical, marketing and technical assessments to prioritize Northwell innovations for commercial development.

Developing new medications to treat patients is a lot of work. In this video, learn about all of the steps necessary to bring new therapies developed in medical research all the way into clinical care.

In the years since forming the joint venture, i360 has reviewed more than 100 innovative ideas from all areas of the Health System from Cardiology and Urology to Emergency Medicine and Nursing.  They have prioritized six of these ideas and are now accelerating three through initial prototyping in preparation for seed funding.

Prior to the formation of this alliance, breakthroughs at The Feinstein Institute over the last 10 years have led to the creation of 11 start-up companies. The Feinstein Institute now has more than 200 active patents that comprise 80 distinct technologies.

In addition to advancing discoveries to market, the Office of Intellectual Assets is available to assist in the following areas:
